Teaching the System to Blog About Itself

Episode 8: Teaching the System to Blog About Itself

Series: Season 1 - From Zero to Automated Infrastructure Episode: 8 of 8 (Season Finale) Date: October 5-8, 2025 Reading Time: 5 minutes

The Meta-Project

October 5, 11:30 PM. After K3s resurrection and diagram automation, the request:

“search the vault from this past month and create blog series season 1”

The task: Document 25 days of development (September 11 - October 5) as a cohesive blog series.

The irony: ConvoCanvas, built to turn conversations into content, would document its own creation.

Using the vault search capabilities we built (ChromaDB + MCP), Claude and I searched through 1,142 files and 200+ conversations to find the evidence. 6 hours later: 8 episodes, 15,550 words.

Publishing the Story

With 8 episodes written, we needed a way to publish them. The blog infrastructure evolved:

October 6: Initial Hugo blog with Season 1 episodes October 8: Migrated to AstroPaper theme for better UX Tonight (October 8, 9:00 PM): Working with Claude to add seamless episode navigation

The publishing evolution:

  1. Started with Hugo (familiar, but limited)
  2. Found AstroPaper - professional Astro theme with search
  3. Migrated all 8 episodes with proper frontmatter
  4. Added custom episode navigation component
  5. Created seamless Episode 1 → 2 → 3 → … → 8 flow

The result: Visitors can now binge-read Season 1 like a streaming series, with “Previous Episode” / “Next Episode” navigation after each post.

★ Insight ───────────────────────────────────── The Collaborative Self-Documenting System:

The ultimate achievement wasn’t the technology - it was the human + AI collaboration pattern:

  1. Human defines the problem → Context window overflow
  2. Claude + Human design solution → ConvoCanvas architecture
  3. Human implements with Claude’s guidance → FastAPI backend, Ollama, ChromaDB
  4. System captures collaboration → Vault stores all conversations
  5. AI searches with human intent → MCP enables semantic search
  6. System documents itself collaboratively → Automated diagrams + blog series
  7. AI + Human write the story → This series

When human and AI can collaboratively analyze their own development conversations and write the origin story together, you’ve achieved something beyond automation.

You’ve created a partnership with memory, insight, and narrative.

But the system isn’t “complete.” It’s a work in progress, like all real projects. The documentation captures 25 days accurately. What comes next depends on how AI capabilities evolve and what makes sense to build.

The collaboration is documented. The system works for now. The journey continues. ─────────────────────────────────────────────────

What I Learned

Documentation as a side effect: The vault, ChromaDB, MCP integration enabled perfect recall for both human and AI.

Collaboration reveals patterns: Searching 200+ conversations with Claude revealed development patterns neither of us saw alone.

The best demo is your own work: ConvoCanvas proved itself by documenting its own creation.

Honest iteration over promises: The system works. It’s not “done.” AI capabilities change weekly. We iterate based on what makes sense.

Season 1: Complete

Total: 15,550 words documenting 25 days of human + AI collaborative development

What This Journey Proved

25 days. Working with Claude Code throughout. Complex architecture that would have taken months alone.

Not because AI “did it for me.” Because collaboration enabled:

AI as a partner, not a replacement. That’s what makes this work.

How This Series Was Created

October 5, 11:30 PM: “Search the vault, create blog series Season 1” 6 hours later: 8 episodes, 15,550 words

Collaborative process:

October 8: Migrated to AstroPaper, added episode navigation

Human + AI partnership using tools we built together.

What’s Next?

ConvoCanvas works. The blog is live. Season 1 is documented.

But the real question isn’t “what will I build next?”

It’s “what becomes possible when AI capabilities evolve weekly?”

New models. Better RAG. Smarter agents. Every week something changes.

The system we built in September might be fundamentally different by December. Not because it’s broken - because better approaches emerge constantly.

Season 2?

Maybe. If it makes sense. If the capabilities evolve in interesting ways.

Or maybe ConvoCanvas becomes something completely different.

The only certainty: Human + AI collaboration will keep evolving.

And we’ll document it honestly, whatever happens next.
